The "seismic infrared remote sensing integrated information processing integrated system“which was developed by RADI was awarded the gold award of "China Geographic Information Service Excellent Engineering Award" recently, and another project named "Study on Integrated Information Processing and Application Technique of Earthquake based on Satellite Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing" won the second prize of "China Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award".

The "Seismic Infrared Remote Sensing Integrated Information Processing Integrated System" as an operational system with multi-user, multi-tasking and graphical display is composed of ground temperature retrieve subsystem, cloud detection system, geostationary satellite remote sensing long wave radiation (OLR), latent heat flux infrared remote sensing data processing subsystem, OLR data processing subsystem and MODIS satellite remote sensing infrared data processing and application subsystem. The system realized the whole process of multi-source data preprocessing, seismic anomalies information extraction, system development, application and demonstration. It can satisfy the needs of system administrators and business uses; it also promoted the satellite infrared seismic operational monitoring.

The system has been used by 10 earthquake operation departments including China Earthquake Networks Center and plays an important role in the earthquake daily forecast and analysis. "This system can greatly improve the data processing ability in the study on earthquake and the utilize efficiency of multi-satellite infrared data", said Prof. Dimitar Ouzounov, a famous seismic infrared remote sensing expert in the United States.

"Study on Integrated Information Processing and Application Technique of Earthquake based on Satellite Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing" was completed by RADI in partnership with several China earthquake research agencies. The 6-year-period project focuses on the technical problems in seismic infrared remote sensing and aims to make breakthroughs in seismic infrared multi-parameter anomalies extraction and other eight key techniques, develops cloud detection algorithm in complex terrain and surface temperature retrieve model, establishes multi-parameter(brightness temperature, longwave radiation, latent heat flux, NCEP temperature, etc. ) seismic monitoring technique system for seismic anomalies variation characteristics in infrared short-term and impending earthquake in different tectonic zones. This project also establishes multi-temporal and spatial infrared background field of brightness temperature and longwave radiation in Sichuan-Yunnan region, the northeastern corner of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and capital region, develops infrared remote sensing data earthquake integrated information processing systems. The research achievements are promoted in many earthquake administrations in Gansu, Sichuan, Hubei, Guangdong, Hainan, Shanxi, Hebei, Zhejiang, etc.

The project leads to the publication of Seismic infrared remote sensing, which systematically summarizes the 6-year achievements by 30 researchers in the team. The research achievements promote the process that introduce seismic infrared remote sensing as an effective technique into the main business application of earthquake monitoring in China Earthquake Networks Center and other departments and it has played an important role in series of mid-term and short-term earthquake prediction in recent years. They promote the application of earthquake infrared remote sensing technology in earthquake monitoring and provide strong technical support for earthquake monitoring, forecasting and trend judgment in China.
