At the invitation of the Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International (CABI), Prof. HUANG Wenjiang and Dr. DONG Yingying from RADI attended the kick-off meeting of the China-UK joint project “Integrating Advanced Earth Observation and Environmental Information for Sustainable Management of Crop Pests and Diseases” from June 22 to 23.

The study is jointly funded by China’s NSFC and the UK Newton Fund Grant to promote China-UK technological cooperation and the applications of agricultural technology. In December 2015, RADI, CABI and five other institutes from China and the UK jointly applied for the international project, which was approved in April 2016, with the project spanning from April 2016 to March 2019. Prof. Huang is the principal investigator in China, while his counterpart in the UK is Prof. Belinda Luke.

During the kick-off meeting, scientists from China and the UK introduced their institutions and research backgrounds, and discussed the research tasks and management plan for the joint project. To facilitate an effective exchange, Chinese and UK participants will hold workshops every half year, and a video conference every two months.

Based on the respective advantages of Chinese and UK institutions, the project will promote scientific research in agricultural remote sensing for pest and disease monitoring, prevention and control.

A kick-off meeting is held  to discuss the joint project.
