Water Environment Remote Sensing Project Won China Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award

The “Engineering and Processing Technology Research and System Implementation on Water Environment Remote Sensing Application”, a project accomplished by RADI, won the First Prize of China Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award at the China’s Geographic Information Industry Conference held from September 24 to 26.

The project is accomplished by a RADI research team from the Optic Earth Observation division of the CAS Key Laboratory of Digital Earth Science. This team has undertaken many scientific research projects on water environment remote sensing and has made series of breakthroughs on the water environment remote sensing mechanism, method and application.

The research has generated 80 academic papers, among which more than 20 are SCI-cited, 5 National Invention Patents, 1 monograph titled “Hyperspectral Remote Sensing of Inland Water”, and more than 10 software copyrights.

Based on the research, this team has built China’s first water monitoring remote sensing application system that operates at the national and provincial levels. This system, aiming to meet the demands of national environmental protection agencies, has provided strong support for the departments like Satellite Environmental Application Center by carrying out water environment remote sensing application operationally and accelerated the application of remote sensing technology on Chinese water environment monitoring and protection.
