Senior Researcher at Digital Agriculture Division

Of the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, Chinese Academy of Sciences (RADI/CAS)

Description

The Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) seeks a full time senior researcher/consultant for the CropWatch Programme (cropwatch.com.cn). CropWatch, a global remote sensing based crop monitoring system operated by the Digital Agriculture Division, RADI, CAS, was established in 1998 and has quarterly issued bilingual (Chinese and English) bulletin. CropWatch aims at providing an independent and transparent source of information on global food production to improve food security and the stability of agricultural markets. The senior researcher/consultant will work in the CropWatch team under the direct supervision of the Division Director on various research fields such as remote sensing, agro-models and agro-meteorological analysis for CropWatch. His/her specific term of references are as follows:

Primary responsibilities

  1. Participating in CropWatch bulletin preparation and writing-up;

  2. Promoting global visibility and impact of CropWatch;

  3. Strengthening international cooperation and exchange with respected and highly reputable organizations including international organizations, universities and research institutes abroad;

  4. Implementing technical transfer of CropWatch and capacity building for developing countries;

  5. Jointly preparing research papers for scientific journals, and

  6. Co-supervising Ph.D. candidates and post doctors.

Qualifications, skills and experience

  1. A doctorate degree in agro-meteorology and/or remote sensing or in other relevant field;

  2. Holding a professorship position or an equivalent position in respected universities, research institutions or international organization in the field of agro-meteorology or remote sensing, or related fields for at least 5 years;

  3. Strong reputation and academic influence in agro-meteorological and/or remote sensing;

  4. Analytic capacity and demonstrated ability to process, analyze and synthesize complex, technical information from different sources;

  5. Good organizational and effective communication skill;

  6. Mastering excellent English, both in speaking and writing;

  7. Age under 65.

Successful applicant will be offered a 3-year contract and is required to physically present at Beijing to work and interact with CropWatch team at RADI, for at least 6 months each year. The contract is renewable subject to evaluation and satisfactory performance.

RADI will provide an internationally competitive salary based on the experience of the successful applicant.
