An international workshop on "SAR in Big Data Era: Models, Methods and Applications" was held at RADI on November 13, 2017. The two-day event brought over 100 participants at home and abroad to share models, methods and applications of SAR data exploration in an era of big data.

The workshop covered such subjects as big SAR data modeling, large-scale intelligent SAR processing, SAR applications in big data frameworks. The workshop highlighted keynote speeches delivered by distinguished scientists in this field, including “Big SAR Data: from computational sensing to computational intelligence” by Prof. M. Datcu from German Aerospace Center (DLR), “Structurization of synthetic aperture radar information by using neural networks” by Prof. A. Hirose from University of Tokyo, and “Chinese Gaofen – 3 SAR Satellite and applications” by Prof. ZHANG Qianjun from China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp.

Last decade witnesses launches of a variety of SAR satellites including China’s High-resolution Satellite GF-3, resulting in production of huge SAR data. It has become a challenge to retrieve information from volumes of data to meet a variety of applications.

The workshop was organized by RADI and IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE GRSS).
