A delegation from China-Africa Fund for Production Capacity Cooperation visited RADI on May 11.

The delegation visited RADI hosted research facilities including the Demonstration System of Digital Earth Science Platform, Airborne Remote sensing Center, and Operating and Management System of Remote Sensing Satellite. They also visited RADI-based international scientific organizations including the CAS - TWAS Centre for Space Technology for Disaster Mitigation (SDIM), the International Centre on Space Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage (HIST) under the auspices of UNESCO, the International Society of Digital Earth (ISDE) and the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR).

On the symposium held for the delegation, Prof. ZHANG Bing, Deputy Director of RADI briefed the history of RADI, and detailed the application of remote sensing technology for African natural and social development. Prof. LIU Jianbo, Deputy Director of RADI introduced the remote sensing satellite data reception from China Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station and its overseas planning. Prof. WANG Xinyuan and Prof. JIA Li introduced their research into capacity-based investment services based on big spatial data, and water resource management by remote sensing, respectively.

HAN Hongmei, head of the China-Africa Fund for Production Capacity Cooperation pointed out that Africa is an important part in the landscape of the “Belt and Road” initiative, and she hoped that the fund join hands with China’s research institutions to carry out extensive cooperation, especially in the fields of African agriculture monitoring, mining resources exploration by using space technologies. Also, the both sides discussed future cooperation mechanism.
