On June 22, the 3rd International Training Workshop on Space Technologies for Management and Conservation of World Heritage Sites, organized by the International Centre on Space Technologies for Natural and Cultural Heritage (HIST), UNESCO and jointly undertaken by CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence on Space Technology for Disaster Mitigation (SDIM), Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI) under CAS, National Research Council of Italy (CNR) and European Space Agency (ESA), was launched in Beijing.
It gathered 25 professionals in world heritage management and research from 12 Asian, African and East European developing countries including Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Ethiopia and India. The 20-day workshop will close on July 10.
The previous two editions of the workshop were held in 2012 and 2014, respectively. The workshop aims to provide technical training for the decision making and management of world heritage in developing countries, and promote the application of space technologies for the conservation and management of world heritage. The workshops has so far trained decision makers and management personnel from over 20 countries for world heritage protection on space technologies.
Besides RADI researchers, some leading experts specializing in space technologies for world heritage conservation and management from ESA and CNR are also invited to give lectures on this workshop.
