Dr. HUANG Yanbo, a renowned remote sensing scientist from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS), visited RADI on September 24 and delivered a keynote titled "The Development and Application of Remote Sensing Techniques in Precision Agriculture" at the 106th Academic Forum of Earth Observation and Digital Earth of RADIwhich was presided by Prof. HUANG Wenjiang, Deputy Director of the Key laboratory of Digital Earth Sciences.

In his report, Dr. HUANG Yanbo introduced the history of precision agriculture, the remote sensing scale effects, research methodologies, as well as the current research and application of low-altitude remote sensing technology in precision agriculture. His report focused on the imperious demand of precision employing pesticide against crop pest and disease. He elaborated a series of crucial problems based on multi-spectral and hyperspectral remote sensing such as how to recognize field crop pest and disease occurrence; crop spectral response; miss recognition and early diagnose of targeted crop caused by aerial sprayed herbicide drift; realization and application of low-altitude remote sensing/spray integrated technology.

Dr. Huang Yanbo is currently a senior professor of USDA-ARS Crop Production Systems Research Unit; adjunct professor of Texas A&M University, Mississippi State University and Delta State University; visiting professor of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). His research focuses on process modeling and control, and intelligence machine learning algorithms. Meanwhile, he serves as editor-in-chief of International Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology and chairman of Association of Overseas Chinese Agricultural, Biological and Food Engineers (AOC). He has published more than 160 journal papers, and edited the book Automation for Food Engineering: Food Quality Quantization and Process Control.

Dr. Huang delivers a keynote titled "The Development and Application of Remote Sensing Techniques in Precision Agriculture" at RADI’s academic forum.
