RADI should upgrade its S&T cooperation with neighboring countries by providing training to their S&T personnel, giving importance to strategic planning, and wining government’s support to its Earth observation project for China’s Belt and Road Initiative, suggested a group of officials from Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Headed by Counselor LI Tao and Deputy Division Chief FANG Bing from the Ministry’s Asian Affairs Department, the group visited RADI on January 13. They held talks with researchers after visiting an achievement exhibit, the Digital Earth Demonstration Platform, the remote sensing satellite data receiving and processing system, and international institutions and offices housed by RADI.
At the meeting, RADI Deputy Director LIU Jianbo briefed the visitors on the overall development of the institute, and Director of RADI Research Center in Sanya LIU Yongwei made a report on RADI regional development strategy focusing on China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and its Sanya-based collaboration with ASEAN countries.
The visitors spoke highly of the international cooperation achievements of RADI in the field of Earth observation and gave a brief account of China’s foreign policy concerning neighboring countries. Then the two sides held discussions on the planning and specific projects of space information cooperation centered on the Maritime Silk Road Initiative. They all agreed that efforts should be made to further cooperation with ASEAN countries in the field of Earth observation and marine science and technology.
