On the afternoon of March 2, 2017, Luc St-Pierre, chief of the Space Applications Section, at the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), paid a visit to RADI and held discussion with researchers. His visit was accompanied by JIANG Hui from the China National Space Administration (CNSA).
GU Xingfa, Executive Deputy Director of RADI presided over the meeting, welcomed the visit of Luc St-Pierre and officials from CNSA, and briefed about the overall situation of RADI. Jiang reviewed the cooperation between CNSA and UNOOSA in remote sensing and aerospace.
After introducing the scientific research and international cooperation of RADI, the meeting started discussions on a variety of issues such as the APSCO cloud platform, agricultural yield estimation and food security, applications of space technology in public health, Sichuan Yushu earthquake emergency coordination platform, water circulation satellite, the Asia-Oceania GEOSS Initiative (AOGEOSS), etc.
Attendees unanimously agreed to, based on the existing cooperation, further foster the cooperation between China and UNOOSA in all applications of remote sensing, and hoped to gradually promote some scientific programs and applied technologies initiated by China within the UN system.
The visiting delegation also included SUN Jiayi, head of Beijing Office of UN-SPIDER, and DU Hui and TANG Weiwei, officials of Department of International Cooperation of CNSA.
