Seminar on Food Security and Crop Monitoring Technologies Held at RADI

On May 21 and 22, a delegation led by Mr. Shukri Ahmed, Director of the Economic and Social Development Department of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations visited RADI where a seminar was held to promote the technology exchanges between FAO’s Global Information and Early Warning System on Food and Agriculture (GIEWS) and RADI’s CropWatch system, which is developed by RADI to monitor global crop growth and therefore to estimate global crop production.

Former FAO Deputy Secretary-General He Changchui, FAO Senior Economist Shukri Ahmed, Oscar Rojas from FAO Natural Resources Department and Li Yanyun from FAO Merchandise Trade Department attended the seminar, and introduced respectively the situation of world food security, crop evaluation system, global information and early warning system on food and agriculture as well as major activities and related publications of FAO.

Prof. Wu Bingfang and his team introduced CropWatch,a remote sensing-based global crop monitoring system, which is indigenously developed by his team, and worldwide crop growth monitoring, output estimation and its application in the cloud platform.

The both sides discussed about data sharing, analytical methods, product production and online services of the CropWatch system, aiming to define the direction of cooperation, expand the field of cooperation and conduct further cooperation.
