A delegation comprising internationally recognized experts in remote sensing visited RADI on August 23. They are Prof. Sergey Pulinets from Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Dimitar Ouzounov from Chapman University, the U.S., Prof. Valerio Tramutoli from the Basilicata University, Italy, Prof. Katsumi Hattori from Chiba University, Japan, Prof. Dimcho Solakov, Prof. Stela Simeonova and Prof. Rumiana Vatseva from National Institute of Geophysics Geodesy and Geography, Bulgaria Academic of Sciences, and Prof. LIU Zhengyan from National Central University of Taiwan, all leading experts in the fields of earthquake infrared remote sensing and electromagnetism.

The delegation visited RADI’s Olympic campus, watched a demonstration of the China High Resolution Earth Observation System, and viewed thematic maps generated by the GF-1 satellite. Prof. MENG Qingyan from RADI introduced the development of a Chinese Earth Observation System and a project named “Study on Integrated Information Processing and Application Techniques for Earthquakes based on Satellite Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing”.

The group discussed research on earthquake infrared remote sensing such as the fusion of studies on various aspects of the field, including infrared remote sensing, electromagnetism, and ground-based observation. Both sides agreed to strengthen cross-border and cross-regional joint research, and supported the sharing of data, information, technology, and methods.

During the visit, Prof. Meng and Prof. Katsumi Hattori from Chiba University, on behalf of the research groups, signed a cooperation agreement on jointly applying for earthquake remote sensing projects.
