112th RADI Academic Forum Themed Crop Growth Model and Data Assimilation
On 28 January 2016, Prof. CHEN Zhongxin, a famous agricultural remote sensing scientist from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), visited RADI where he delivered a keynote speech titled "Data assimilation of remote sensing observations and crop growth model: definition, theory, uncertainty analysis, and application" at the 112th Academic Forum of Earth Observation and Digital Earth of RADI, which was hosted by Prof. HUANG Wengjiang, deputy director of the CAS Key Laboratory of Digital Earth Science.
Prof. Chen elaborated the progress of crop growth simulation in his speech from the perspectives of crop growth models, growth condition monitoring methods and technologies, phenology extracting algorithms. Then he introduced the data assimilation of remote sensing observations and crop growth models in detail, such as definitions and theories, data assimilation algorithms and strategies, applications and validations. He also analyzed the uncertainty and inefficiency of the data assimilation.
Prof. Chen received his MS and PhD degrees in botany (1994, 1998) from the Institute of Botany, CAS. He is affiliated with the Remote Sensing Application Center, Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), and Department of Agricultural Application, National Remote Sensing Center of China (NRSCC). He is director of MOA Key Laboratory of Agri-Informatics. His main research interests include the application of remote sensing and geo-informatics in agriculture, ecology and environmental sustainability, economical ecology, spatial-specific modeling.
Prof. Chen delivers an academic report at RADI Academic Forum.
